Florida requires an LPN license from the Florida Board of Nursing to practice practical nursing anywhere in the state. The path is an approved practical nursing program (typically about 12 months), a fingerprint background screening, and a passing score on the NCLEX-PN; new graduates can request temporary Graduate Nurse status within 3 months of graduation. Florida is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
Official source: Florida Board of Nursing (Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance) · Exam: NCLEX-PN · Typical requirement: Graduation from an approved or accredited practical nursing education program (typically about 12 months; Florida public PN programs run about 1,350 clock hours); fingerprint-based background screening; RN students who have completed LPN-equivalent coursework may apply under the practical nurse equivalency option
