Ohio requires a state cosmetology license from the Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board. The standard path is 1,500 hours at a board-licensed school (an optional 1,800-hour advanced cosmetology license also exists), followed by written theory and practical exams administered by the board itself. Ohio has no apprenticeship alternative to school, and licensees complete 4 hours of continuing education per renewal cycle.
