Diesel Mechanics licensing in Georgia: No license — certification expected

Georgia has no state diesel mechanic license — the Secretary of State's 42 professional licensing boards include plumbers and electrical contractors but nothing for automotive or diesel repair. Shops need a routine city/county occupational tax certificate (Augusta, for example, requires one for mechanic shops), and metro Atlanta's 13-county emissions program certifies inspectors only. For mechanics themselves, voluntary ASE T-series certification is the expected credential.

Official source: No licensing board; Georgia Secretary of State Professional Licensing Boards Division (mechanics absent from board list) · Exam: None required by the state. Voluntary ASE T-series exams; EPA 609 (federal) for A/C work. · Typical requirement: None set by the state. Shops need only a local occupational tax certificate (business license) from their city/county — e.g., Augusta requires one for mechanic shops and mobile mechanics. Emissions inspectors in the 13-county metro Atlanta program are separately certified, for inspection work only.
