Practical Nursing (LPN/LVN) licensing in Michigan: State license required

Michigan requires an LPN license from the Michigan Board of Nursing, administered by LARA's Bureau of Professional Licensing. Applicants complete a board-approved practical nursing program (typically about 12 months), meet English proficiency and implicit bias training requirements, apply through the MiPLUS online system, and pass the NCLEX-PN. Michigan is not a Nurse Licensure Compact state as of this research (July 2026), so nurses licensed elsewhere must obtain a Michigan license by endorsement.

Official source: Michigan Board of Nursing (Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Professional Licensing) · Exam: NCLEX-PN · Typical requirement: Graduation from a board-approved practical nursing program (typically about 12 months); English proficiency; implicit bias training (required of all Michigan health-profession licensees); online application via the MiPLUS system
