Georgia does not license auto mechanics — no state credential is required to do repair work, and Georgia has no statewide vehicle safety inspection. The one certification is for emissions inspectors in the 13 metro Atlanta counties (Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett and 9 others), who must complete EPD-approved training through Georgia's Clean Air Force and pass a written and practical test scoring at least 80%, renewed every 2 years. For everything else, voluntary ASE certification is the employer standard.
