Michigan requires a state paramedic license from MDHHS to work as a paramedic. Candidates must already hold a Michigan EMT license, complete a CAAHEP-accredited paramedic program (typically 1,000+ hours), and pass the NREMT Paramedic exam before applying to the state. The license renews every 3 years with 45 hours of continuing education or an approved refresher course; keeping National Registry current after licensure is optional.
